Viton AED refers to Anti-Explosive Decompression (also called Rapid Gas Decompression, RGD) resistant seals and O-rings, made from specialized high-hardness Viton/FKM fluoroelastomer. In high-pressure gas systems, dissolved gas can migrate into a standard O-ring under pressure; if pressure drops suddenly, that trapped gas expands explosively inside the rubber, blistering or rupturing it. AED-grade compounds are formulated with controlled porosity and hardness specifically to resist this failure mode. FITCO supplies AED-grade O-rings for high-pressure oil & gas and process applications where rapid pressure cycling is a known risk.
| Temperature range | -20°C to +200°C |

| Hardness range | 85–95 Shore A |
| Relative cost | $$$$ |
| Resists | Same broad chemical resistance as standard FKM, plus resistance to explosive/rapid gas decompression failure |
| Avoid with | Low-pressure static applications — AED's hardness and cost aren't justified without genuine RGD risk |

General-purpose seal for mineral oils, fuels and hydraulic fluids.
-20°C to +200°CHigh-temperature, chemical-resistant sealing for oil & gas and process industries.
-15°C to +327°CNear-universal chemical resistance for the most demanding process seals.
FEP encapsulated O-rings use standard Silicone or standard Viton FKM as the elastomer core — not specialty sub-grades. If you need FEP encapsulation, the core is standard FKM, not this specific grade.
