AFLAS (tetrafluoroethylene-propylene, FEPM) resists amines, steam, sour gas and strongly basic media that attack standard FKM — a common failure point in oilfield production chemicals. FITCO supplies AFLAS for the specific niche of high-temperature, high-pH, amine-exposed sealing where FKM is chemically unsuitable and FFKM is unnecessary cost.
| Temperature range | -10°C to +230°C |
|---|---|
| Hardness range | 70–90 Shore A |
| Relative cost | $$$$ |
| Resists | Amines, steam, sour gas (H₂S/CO₂), strong bases, high-temperature service |
| Avoid with | Low-temperature dynamic seals — poor cold flexibility versus FKM/FFKM |
| Standards | AS568 / ISO 3601 / BS 4518 |
AFLAS isn't a single formulation — the grade below matters as much as the base compound once your application gets specific.
The standard tetrafluoroethylene-propylene copolymer grade — FITCO's default AFLAS recommendation for amine and sour-gas service unless a project spec calls for a specific sub-grade.
A formulation variant optimized for the top of AFLAS's temperature range, for geothermal and high-temperature wellhead service where sustained heat is combined with amine or caustic exposure.
